Here are the official Rain Light guidelines:

Light assembly must be securely mounted to the rear most point of the machines tail.

Light must be mounted and functional when machine is presented for technical inspection.

Light may be removed during dry conditions.

No OEM taillight assemblies.

Light may be self powered (internal battery) or connected the machines battery (must have an on/off switch if wired direct to the machine)

Light must illuminate solid red in color when powered on.

Light may not function as a brake light.

Thanks for the thread, I missed this. Got two lights coming. Got practice mounting on a motoamerica bike. The amazon one worked fine all weekend in the rain, took 5 minutes to mount. KISS is right Walter.

Are lights required for Groms, minis, and Jr. Motard/F8 bikes as well?

seems like the lights will require similar mounting principles to action cameras, specifically tethering. They typically won't weigh as much, but are just another module we're slapping on. My bicycle tail lights slide-clip onto ABS plastic mounts, but I'm not sure that alone would be considered secure enough.

That's why I initially went with an LED light strip. It weighs virtually nothing and needs minor adhesive in addition to what it already came with. The wiring acts as its own tether should that fail. I don't understand why this is becoming such a discussion. If I can make it happen in less than 48 hours so can you. Just follow the guidelines in the rulebook and apply a little common sense. Once you are on the bike it will all seem so insignificant. The lights will only be a peripheral image and you will focus on everything else that comes with a wet race. The lights are merely a safety feature to increase situational awareness in times of decreased visibility.

Battery-powered lights will weigh more but are more desirable because I don't have to worry about wiring when I pull the tail off for work mid-race (BBE).

Spade connectors? That should make it work. You can always wire lights to a stand-alone battery pack mounted anywhere
