EX250 415 chain.. link count.. and another question.

Could someone tell me what number of links they are using with the 415 chain please?
Also All I can find in that size chain are '08 and up sprocket kits.. I read in another board that some folks are using the later model front sprockets on pre gen models like mine but are putting a clip on the shaft and safety wire tie it... can someone clue me in on what is acceptable/possible? Finally do the late model rear sprockets work on the pre gen? I actually have a set of '06 EX500 wheels on the bike now... Thanks or any help..

At ECR this past weekend, the team next to us broke their 415 chain and not at the master link either. Looked like a new chain too.

I like a more beefy chain.

Couldn't tell you if the new gen sprockets fit on the pre gen but with my 18/58 415 set up my chainis 136 pins long. All 415 chains seem to come in 120 pin lengths so you have to run 2 master links and purchase 2 chains. Got mine from speedmotoco.com after they posted in the vendor section. Give them a call, they seem to know their stuff. Maybe they have a solution for the pre-gen. They also sell as a kit with enough extra links included so you don't have to buy an extra chain just to break it down. Plus they offer a cmra discount.

I have had mine for a track day and a sprint race with no trouble or excessive stretching. But I would be hesitant to run it on an endurance bike. Also I went ahead and got an extra complete chain so I can always have a clean one to put on between outings. Plus I am using the tsubaki heavy duty chain witch weighs a little more and doesn't look as cool as the gold D.I.D. chain but supposedly is stronger.

Our endurance neighbors with the broken chain was running a gold one.

Thanks Robert for the response... after talking to a few folks I think I'll go with the 520.. there have been more than a few broken chains reported with the 415 and I can't find reliable sources of 428 or sprockets for the the ninja. Right now reliability vs all out performance is important to me. I'll look to lose weight elsewhere... (insert derogatory commentary here)..

I keep hearing about a 415 o-ring or x-ring chain but have yet to find one.

Zach Vonler has the 428 on his 250 and I believe he called Sprocket Specialists, their website is of little use for these applications.

415 chain is plenty strong enough, just have to change it every 8-10 hrs or so.
They are cheap so not a big deal.
Use non oring chain

Can anyone clerify if one tooth in the front is equal to 2,2.5, or 3 in the back.

Though I went ahead and ordered 520 chain and some different size sprockets I am going to try out the 415 set up later after I work out all the bugs in this bike...
I should have listened when someone told me that building a real track bike from scratch is not as easy as it looks...
By the way.. do gear ratios like those shown on the chart remain the same between various chain pitch's?
