I was under the assumption that it would have to be something permanently fixed to and powered by the bike. You never know when it might rain, so the lights would need to be checked for operation in...

Please keep in mind that there are bikes out there that don't have a charging system at all. So it would be a little more difficult than just wiring it in and flipping a switch.

The right rearset was broken off of the bike.

I like to make catch cans from steel sheet with a drain that's easy to get to. A plastic bottle works fine too.
