Could I get some guidance on mounting the transponder in a "vertical plane" as per the rule. If it was ment as lying flat on it's back on top of the tail section that would seem to be the horizontial plane to me. Just want to be on the same page as the rule.

Yep - must be mounted even, vertically, with the rear axle.
