    Better bulletin board software?

Just wondering if anyone else has thought about looking into some better, more fully featured bulletin board software...

Either vBulletin or phpBB would be a welcome change from this UBB.classic IMO... better tracking of new posts, improved look-and-feel, etc...

You can see an example of vBulletin here:
    http://zx-10r.net/forum/index.php?s=&styleid=6

and an example of phpBB here:
    http://www.1000rr.net/forums/index.php

Looking at Infopop's pricing sheet ( http://ubbcentral.com/order.php?product=UBB.classic ), it looks like they want $200 for UBB.classic, whereas vBulletin is only $160, and phpBB is free (open source)...

    just a suggestion...

i may be the odd one out here, but i like it the way it is. the few older boards i frequent like this one rarely go down, and load a lot quicker. i hate when there's an update and posts get lost, or you have to re-register, searches don't search right, etc.

I believe this is the 4th itteration of the CMRA's BBS.

This one has been bullit proof and Jess does a bad a$$ job of administering it.

Leave it be....some of us are still on dial up and like low band width...

    Re: Better bulletin board software?

David, are there any particular features you would like to see? There's a whole lot built into UBB 6.7 that I don't use just because it works well the way it is.

If we were starting from scratch, VBB or phpBB would seem to make more sense than UBB. However, we have already paid for UBB many years ago, and the support costs are less than buying a new license for VBB. Not to mention the time and effort involved in switching and migrating.

Also, UBB.classic and UBB.threads are being replaced by one new php/mysql product. Our license will transfer over to that when it is released. You can bet we'll be trying that out as well.

I've always subscribed to 2 things. the KISS principle, and "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".
Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.
