Just throwing this out there... finally looking to dive into the pool.
Considering taking the RS CMRA Licensing School at TWS on the 10th. I'm 45... so I'm not looking to vie for points. I just want to have fun and provide an additional option to my track day fun. Couldn't afford to race all season anyway.
F40 looks cool... lots of fast "old" guys out there... ;)
I'm running a 09 GSXR750 and have an 05 R6 as a backup.
Any tips, advice, or comments are appreciated.

Two good bikes. Make sure and have your suspension checked out by a good suspension guy...Jim Cambora from Raceworx is excellent at checking and setting it up for you. Learn the tracks well, and have some FUN!
By the looks of it, that bike probably has a good suspension if it was Kelseys. LOL, but he's right get it setup for you. You might also look into joining a Light weight endurance team, it's a great way to learn race craft and its affordable and fun. Big Bike Endurance is also another great way to get seat time and learn the tracks, that's also an affordable way to race. You also have Team 60 and Solo 30, so there are lot of ways to race in the CMRA and get experience. Good Luck!

Yes, the suspension is pretty much dialed in. Kelsey and I are about the same height & weight and after using the bike all least season, and making some minor adjustments, I feel extremely comfortable on it. I'm working on creating a suspension "settings list" for each specific track at this time.
My favorite track by far is TWS... so I'm pretty disappointed that I'll never be in a race there... Hallett is my 2nd favorite (CW, believe it or not), and I've yet to see MSRH. I've got lots of track time ECR & Cresson too.
The R6 suspension could use a refresh and probably some stiffer springs for my weight. I was very comfortable on it though... but that was before I was really starting to get fast and smooth (still working on both). Unfortunately... I've not used it since the beginning of last summer since that's when I bought Kelsey's bike. My buddies have used it more than me, since I usually take it as a spare bike and they've needed it.
I'm definitely interested in the endurance aspect... and I'm really trying to decipher all the other categories from the rule book.

With either of those bikes, you can do a lot of sprint racing on sunday. You'll find there is no shortage of members willing to help out, but Eric Falt and Danny Dominguez are a good place to start. They've forgotten more about racing than most of us new comers will ever know.

similar to Bob's post I am considering giving racing a try at present I am running an 2012 triumph street triple which I bought for a daily driver for the commute to work, unfortunately I am unable to maintain a reasonable speed on the street (130 on beltway 8) this is the first sport oriented bike I owned and have pretty much have resigned to only running it on the track for reasons mentioned had I known this about myself I would have purchased a different bike! I have since purchased a Harley XR1200 for my daily driver and is proving to be a good fit, the bike handles good and will get out of its own way, but is very much a tractor. pulls hard off the line but I can get stupid with it and still barley hit 100.
the question is would the street triple make a good track bike to possibly race? I have been given advice from other riders that range from the triple is a good platform to modify and race, to sell it and start over and one guy told me to convert the XR1200 to AMA trim and race the Harley instead! I would greatly appreciate advice from the racing community. at present I am 55 and have 6 track days under my belt and would like to take a run at racing.
