I was going to install frame sliders on my 14 Daytona but went down on turn 10 at TWS and had very little actual damage, scuffed up plastic and a broken brake lever but no tumbling. After reading this post I am going to forego the frame sliders and use the case slider as the Daytona seem to grind up the Alt cover. Good post thanks.
No frame sliders!
They break frames! Just ask Cody Stewart. He had the low profile woodcraft sliders, it broke the motor mount off his frame and I had to make a new one for it.

Had some turn into pretzels after a couple crashes. They were a pain to take out. Luckily they didn't break my frame. The ear of the frame where they bolt into looks like the weaker part of the frame. I used to run them only because I already had them installed when my bike was a street bike. After my last crash I was happy I didn't have any frame damage. I decided to not leave it up to luck any more and I uninstalled them. IMHO the risk is not worth the reward.
EVERY crash is different so its hard to say. the key as others have said is to keep it as low a profile as possible. I my self have had woodcraft cut race sliders since day one and have crashed my bike at least 5 times without any significant damage to the frame.

I have always been afraid to run sliders on the track due to many of the reasons listed here. However, I think it all depends on the bike and what brand of sliders you go with. Some bikes will tend to take more damage to the frame/engine in a lowside due to their design.
I like the looks of the Woodcraft sliders for the new R1.
If you can, get frame sliders that have a bolt all the way through the engine/frame. One huge bolt. The damage to the frame many of you have seen (Proler, Cody Stewart) is with short bolts that don't go thru, right?

Frame slider bolt is the chisel and the ground is the hammer, if your bike lands on the slider after a highside or tumble.
