It just depends on the classes you enter. Dot tend to be less expensive than slicks.
There are only 3 sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; the rest are merely games

price aside what about performance?

I'm not sure if anyone keeps records on the tires used. But I would guess most of the track records in the CMRA are set on DOTs.
If Ty or Sanchez wants to chime in. Did you use Dots or slicks to set your records?
And do they make a differance in your lap times?

Slicks have more traction as they have more rubber in contact with the ground. DOT tires tend to be more stable in a straight line if the bike is tuned for slicks as the slicks are deisigned for cornering. Some slicks are built on DOT carcuses and will be as stable as the DOT but not have the cornnering capabilities of the purpose built slick. The slicks on the DOT carcus tend to be less expensive than the DOT or purpose built slick. For example. The DOT 180 rear is Racer priced at $205 while the Purpose built slick is $220 while the slick on the DOT carcus is $180. These are the non contract racer prices.
