Seriously, folks, I'd like feedback on the 'random number' vs 'first to the fax' basis for pre-entry grids at the first race. With the 'random number' approach, all pre-entries would be in the first rows, followed by at-track entries which would be gridded behind all pre-entered riders based on order at the regisration window.
I can accomodate either approach with no real difference on my end - the random number approach just gives a bit more equity to those that must mail entries with a check and to those that have real jobs and lives therefore cannot sit and monitor email and the forum 24/7.

Sorry, I thought you were joking.
I don't think it makes sense to have 9 out of 10 grids based on performance and 1 based on sheer luck. The first grid needs to have some performance index and "first to fax" works for me. We're racers after all, if you can't race your way to a Kinko's then you should be gridded behind those that can.
But I'm still holding out for Qualifying as it obviously makes the most sense.
