David, that post was mine. I did it because I can remember seeing you bringing bib bucks to Rusty at HouKawasaki five years ago, and mention of them even prior to that. My point was I can recall you specifically supporting the sport prior to the CCS affiliation.
Hope that reduces your annoyance, it is a compliment to you and your commitment.

Re: What do you get from an affiliation?
For starters let me apologize for my ignorance on this subject. The only other circuit that I was exposed to was Loudon Road Racing Series, and that was not as a racer, but by helping a friend of mine at a couple of races. I grew up in Okla. and have been riding on the street since I was 14, and the military has had me in Fl, Ca, Wa, and NY. I had never even heard of any of the clubs mentioned in this thread until I moved to Austin and started searching the web for a track day, and that is how I found the CMRA. Based on this and from what I have heard from others, I think we have the BEST club in the country! I made every endurance race last year and 1/3 of the sprints, 2-3 classes per weekend (limited by my 125). This year I entered 7 classes at OHR, the endurance race at TWS (where I unfortunately crashed), and had entered 4 sprints there, and plan to continue this pattern for the season. I have never won any contingency money, and may not ever. Anyways I think that my case represents the bulk of the amateurs.
My question is, on any given race day, other than contingencies and sponsors, what does the CCS or previously WERA affiliation, do for us?
How many people would actually stop racing if there were no contingencies other than consumables (tires, brakes, etc.) and no purses to be won?
Brooks, maybe I’m blind here, but I’ve never seen Shogun advertise anything for sale, so how do you recoup any of the money that you or other sponsors have put up for our Club?
I understand wanting to get exposure for up and coming talent, and I do see how the CMRA has helped to showcase this, but I was under the impression that the CMRA helped do this, not CCS/WERA.
Thanks,
Clayton Werner

Re: What do you get from an affiliation?
My contributions are made through Shogun, an entity created for this purpose. My goal has been to attract other supporters of the CMRA, whose contributions are specifically targeted at certain projects. There are now a number of these generous supporters of the club. Their contributions have gone towards air fence, repairs to OHR, purses and soon, towards the purchase of a new electronic timing/scoring system.
Roadracing is so expensive today that we must be creative in seeking funding sources from outside the paying membership. The CMRA has to stay current with safety and technilogical advances, while doing everything possible to keep the lid on fees. These contributors are actually investors who do not seek a monitary return. They are investing in the CMRA to preserve and further enhance the roadracing club experience that they, or someone close has enjoyed. Keeping our website and BBS civil is an example of the small return that we can offer. Handling the finances of the club as a business and being good stewards of the contributions is expected. Electing representitives who will put the adgenda of the CMRA above their own is another. For the average racer nothing more than a good attitude is required.
The constructive tone of this thread is a good measure of the progress we're making.

Hey Emmett,
Check out http://www.iespell.com . It works great with internet explorer. You just go up to tools and click on iespell after you write a post on any board and it spell checks. It has a huge vocabulary, too.
