nanananana....na.....
I knew it had to be close to 500 Marcus.....
:p
(I am being silly, not pissy)
That offers even more creadance though to the fact that this club "could" do anything it wanted to. It has the shear numbers and resorces.
Brooks and the BOD, please keep us informed. I know it's still early seeing how this year just got started and I know you ultamilty have to
make a desicion based on what you believe is
good for the club. That is what you were elected
for.
When and if the time ever comes I just want to
make sure that everyone has all the facts possible and can feel good about what you do
in our name. And if they can't feel good then at least they can see the reason and thought prosess
you put into it.
I to am glad this thread has remained civil.
VERY good thoughts, facts and ideas have been expressed by many and it hasn't been bogged down in pettiness.
6 hour mini endurance coming up.
LETS RACE!!!!!!!!

Re: What do you get from an affiliation?
Just my 2 cents worth for the board regarding the whole WERA/CCS/independent bit. First off, I think that for vast majority of us it doesn't make much difference. Having been through all 3 with the CMRA the actual race day experience didn't change much.
Overall, I like WERA better than CCS. The whole "corporatness" of CCS puts me off. I get the feeling that there's no real commitment to the sport, they just view it from a profit point of view and nothing else. Not that there's anything wrong with making a buck, but I get the feeling (perhaps wrongly) that they'd dump it all in heartbeat if they thought they could eke out another percent or 2 some other way. WERA on the other hand seems more committed to the sport. Yes, they need to turn a profit, but they do it by catering to what racers need and want. I don't think Eveyln and Sean are going to wake up tommorrow and decide to devote their time and energy to billboards and radio. I also like the GNF better than the ROC, mostly because RA is a much better track than Daytona. The only thing that's really in CCS's favor is their class structure for LW bikes, it's a lot better than WERA's, IMO.
I don't really see any downside to being independent, as long as enough people are willing to step up and do the work necessary.
I'm VERY glad that the board is airing this ahead of time. What really pissed people off last time (me included) was the feeling that the board just jammed the change down people's throats without ever asking what they thought.

Re: What do you get from an affiliation?
Thanks Brooks.
The question that pops into my head refering to Co-promoted or not is: Why a deal? What makes the CMRA special, different, or whatever enough for CCS to say 'Okay here is your deal'??????? Is it because the CMRA has resources??? I don't know.
As you can tell, I haven't made a connection yet.
If someone would say, "David, CCS is in it for the money" then I would let it go. But because some events are not co-promoted, They can't be totally in it for the money.
Okay I'll shut up.

Re: What do you get from an affiliation?
David, I have no idea but I would be willing to bet it would be to cover their losses if turned out bad, as this years Daytona. It would be about the money. They want to make sure they get theirs
or at least arn't completely exposed. At some track in some locations I'm sure they are just about garenteed to break even so they aren't as
worried. What they were propossing here was new
so they didn't have a "base setting" to work with if you will.
Unforchanantly very few things can be attibuted to genrousity and good will, (as with Shogun)
most are tied to a greenback somewhere.

Re: What do you get from an affiliation?
A few thoughts...
The guy that pays a license fee, and then has a baby and can't make a season, makes the club more money that the guy that enters and wins 4 purse paying races...
As to exposure, 25 grand buys an ad or two in RideTexas and RRW.
Personally, I'd love to see the club leave the ClearChannel family. Given time, I fully expect ClearChannel to start paying points for "longest wheelie down front straight" and other such nonsense to add to the "entertainment value". It's also obvious that we are not perceived as valuable by CC, or they'd do the cross promotions that they are so famous for on their other "media properties" and we'd see advertising on radio and television for spectators to come to the races.
ClearChannel, no, WERA, if there's a benefit, yes. Independent, ditto.
My 2¢,
Daryl
