Looked like fresh concrete or fresh cut concrete to me.
the rumble strips on the exit of 10 and 11 have always been there. the huge concrete bumps on the inside of 6 are new. However, they were discussed at length in the riders meeting, and you can obviously see them, so, im not really sure why you would still try to drag your knee across them.....hurt yourself....and still make a thread about it.
I was curious if anyone shared my concern, or if it was just me whining again.
I was at that rider's meeting. I remember Walter's warning distinctly. I still hit that curbing... TWICE. Once in the Solo 30, and it really, really hurt, and once in the SSA race on Sunday.
I mean, I was *trying* not to be a crappy rider, but I failed... again! That's really why I brought it up.
It seems like we could get out there with a couple of bags of quickcrete and at least remove the dangerous aspect of the new curbing... leave it bumpy and unpleasant, but not something with the odds of ripping a rider off the bike.
Because a lot of us don't ride at your skill level, aren't as talented, and make mistakes despite best efforts in the heat of competition. I clearly fall into that category, and wonder if there's something we can do to make it a little bit better. Sounds like I'm not the only one that shares that concern.
My comments are specifically about the new curbing installed in 6. It strikes me as especially aggressive.
easy fix = don't drag your knee across big concrete things. doesnt take skill or talent. I agree that they shouldn't be there, or should at least be a smooth curb like most of the others...
Accidents in competition happen. I made this one twice. It does take skill I don't have when I'm doing everything I can to hang in a race I'm underskilled and underbiked to be competing in, but do it anyway because the butt-kicking makes me better.
If it were like the other curbs, I wouldn't see an issue at all. This one is especially sharp and aggressive.
congratulations on your 1000th post.
