I looked at those but I think the ST has a poly/composite support just like my Gaernes G-RW.
The higher end Sidi's are metal or Carbon Fiber, but I don't know if the design is better or not.

In 2004, I sprained my ankle really bad. I was wearing Sidi's. They told me I came off the bike around 85mph and was around 10 feet in the air. It was by far the worst crash I've ever been in. To this day I will never wear anything else but top of the line Sidi's. I can say without a doubt that I should've had 2 broken ankles.
Same here.. had the bike come down hard on the foot/ankle.. yes I had bruising..but nothing broken.. I was very happy with the Sidi..
We haven't been very impressed with the A*s. They don't seem to offer the same level of protection as Sidi. My son has crash tested his Sidi Mag-1s on 3 occasions. Most recently at speed at TWS last weekend. He came away with a hand injury, but absolutely no injuries to his feet or ankles. I had to order some replacement parts for the boots, but I'll take that any day over an injury. He says they're extremely comfortable and I feel like they offer excellent protection.

When motorcycle gear finds a way to incorporate fishing line into its assembly, you know it's gotta be good. :)
