Barber! Barber! Barber!
As much as I love being out there, I think only another track on that date should be an option, for the same reason that it wasn't feasible to swap the BBE and LWE endurance rounds. It wouldn't be fair to those in the points chase who were unable to change their vacation dates on this short of notice.
And just for the record, not complaining about the endurance thing as I only do sprints. It thought it was both a valid question (that probably should have been asked right when the schedule came out) and a valid response from the CMRA.
They are book solid. https://www.barberracingevents.com/calendar.php?indy
There are very few places this even has a possibility of working.
1. ECR is a possibility but would need some work on the pavement to be raceable in my opinion. The date could be available and it is the right location to take the place of TWS.
2. Harris Hill is a possibility. It may be a tight fit but could work in a pinch. The date is already a motorcycle weekend. The track is bumpy but not much more so than much of what we are already racing on. It is most certainly worth the consideration.
3. Arroyo Seco is a possibility. It is a long drive. The weather is almost always perfect. The locals from the ASMA may choose to put a team or 2 together and the fresh competition would be very interesting. It may or may not be possible.
4. Hallett shows to have October 2-3 available. This is an outside chance.
5. Heartland Park isn't even keeping up with their schedule. It would require somebody contacting them to see if there is any possibility or availability. This would be a fantastic replacement but again, many will complain about the drive.
A last minute opportunity at COTA, NOLA, Barber, Etc. is extremely unlikely.
There are no perfect answers here. There will be people upset no matter what choice is made by those who pull the strings.
I personally would like to start with Harris Hill. It makes the most sense and has the highest propensity for success in my book.
RIP TWS 09-01-17
As someone who's been to H2R quite a bit (just barely not enough for membership to make financial sense), I think the odds of us racing there are basically zero. Even if facilities were not a concern (and they absolutely are - very little paddock space, 1 bathroom), the membership doesn't want big club races there, period. And as the CMRA, our reputation would precede us... many members there are aware of the typical mess left behind by CMRA events, and they don't want that. They have a nice little clubhouse with rocking chairs on the porch and leather sofas in the living room. How long do you think those would hold up during a typical CMRA weekend?
How many years has ECR said they'd be ready? What kind of circus they running?
