Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
Well, heck, might as well head to this on my slow ride home from Barber.
I've reserved at the Best Western 3 miles from NOLA, non-smoke 2 queen beds, wave and refrigerator, Thursday night through Sunday night.
PM with your phone number if you want to split cost ($40 your share) for any of those nights.

Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
For the CMRA peeps going to NOLA - here's how to sign up: you MUST fax your entry in if you do not have a WERA license already. If you want to run the GNF in addition to NOLA, you will need a full WERA license. You can run at NOLA on your CMRA license to qualify, but you will need
to purchase a WERA license to come to GNF.
pre-entries... must be into the WERA office by this Friday, June 22 for pre-entry. You can post enter at the track, but it will take longer & cost a little more $$. Wera also has the friday practice too, so be sure to mark that on your pre entry form if you want to do it.
here's the link to the forms page:
http://maps.wera.com/forms/?x=1098
use a sportsman series form for saturday,
use a national challenge form for sunday
use a first time membership form & mark it CMRA for membership if you don't want to buy a full WERA license.
**under 18 - be sure to fill out a minor consent form too**
fax # is: (770) 720-5015
hopes this info helps - see you there!
ps-there are no electrical hook ups, bring your genny's!

Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
Thanks for helping everyone out Shandra, but I have a few corrections to make after having spoken to WERA's version of Nancy (but not nearly as hot!) this morning:
- Fax pre-entries were due 10 business days before the race weekend so you can no longer fax in your pre-entry.
- If you're already a licensed WERA member, you can sign up using the online pre-registration form... Deadline is Sunday at midnight for Saturday races, Monday at midnight for Sunday races.
(the online system seems to be down at the moment).
- If you're not already a WERA member, I'd suggest calling to see if you should fax/mail in your membership or just do it at the track: (770) 720-5010. You will probably have to register for the races at the track...

Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
Anybody leaving from Austin-San Antonio that can haul my 600 ? If I go I will have to fly in thursday night. Not 100% sure I will even be able to go.
Call or text me if interested to discuss fee.

Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
Anyone have any idea on gearing ?
-
Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
3,500ft straight, a little longer than TWS.
I'm thinking same gearing as TWS or maybe one less tooth on the rear...
-
Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
hey mark - thanks for posting that- i had tossed my post up after speaking to evelyne at willow this weekend, however, if anybody did try to fax anything in this week, you will be able to register at the track and your pre-entry pricing will be honored.
if you have a full wera license, the online glitch was fixed, so you can enter online now..
btw- power is limited, apparently there are only 15-110 volt outlets available. i'll put the rrw link up here when the event pre-release has posted up..

Daisy is out. Too much going on and too much of an expense to do it as a (for us at least) last minute thing.

Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
We may not make it either. The WERA rule about the tail section may keep Andy's "bobber" in the pits. He is trying to clarify that with them since another part of their rulebook talks about "unlimited bodywork" or something like that.

Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
Thanks to the Altmeyers I will be joining the novices at Nola. I can't wait!!
-
Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
The track is fast and has a long front straight so I want to think it will be close to the gearing at miller. So for an R6 it would be somewhere around 16/45.

Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
I have been getting calls and yes I will be there with my partner Walt Schaefer to service the event.

Shea won both races he entered as did Danny Kelsey; great work boys!

Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
what happened to Ty in F1 and sbk A? Congrats to Shea, Danny, and DJ Ricks!! Way to show the WERA boys what the CMRA is all about!

Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
Ty was having mechanical/fuel pressure issues.

Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
Great representation, to all CMRA members!

Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
Steve Isenhower finished 1st and 2nd in his races.
Worked his was to steady 1:57s 1:56s. Not bad for 4 laps of practice on the track and a bike that was not running up to snuff.
WIsh I coulda drug my bikes up and put down a few laps.
-
Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
Steve did a fantastic job. YES, he spent more time jetting than he did riding. Learned the track quickly, and kicked tail. Very nice work by Steve.
-
Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
Thanks for the props. Had a great time meet a bunch of nice people.
Learn new things everyday seems. The track is first class and very challenging. Look forward to next time i get to go.
Congratulations to all the CMRA racers out there. They did a fine job representing CMRA. Meet some Cmra people i dont normally get to talk to. Thanks.

Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
Jay Newton finished with a 1st in E Superstock Novice with a fast lap of 2:08, but only two bikes in that class. He and Brandon Altmeyer walked away from the other bike, with Brandon taking 1st in E Superstock Expert.
Jay also raced his R6 and pulled two top ten finishes. 10th on Saturday in the C Superstock Novice in the WERA Sportsman Series coming from the second row of the second wave in a 24 bike field. Then Sunday, he pulled a 7th in 600cc Superstock Novice in the WERA National Series from the tenth spot of the 18 bike grid. That race was red flagged at the half way point, but he produced a 1:55 lap time both days.

Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
It would seem that WERA will have lost their asses with the low turn-out. I would have thought that the first race at that track would have seen more of a turn out...
-
Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
Wow Tom, Thanks for the nice positive post there.
Maybe if you tell more people to go race there there would be a better turn out.
Oh wait, this is how you and Keith roll. Im waiting for his positive post next.
Bring a bike and help with the turn out. I did.
Had a great time and i road around the new track and guess what?
A RACE brook out! Woowoo Seems when you get a bunch of racers together they have some fun. Win or loose. Maybe you should try some positive tea this morning?
Times are tough, but i saw lots of smiling people out there and a whole lot waving as people went through the pits.
And Cmra guys did there thing out there.
And Walter drove many hours to get the AIRFENCE and set it up to help out. THANKS WALTER. maybe if WERA and CMRA worked together in the future it may be a better turn out next time.
Id love to see WERA VINTAGE Back full time. Then we can go to the GNFs at a chance for a national title.
So tom in short grow up and have a nice day.

Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
This race should have had a disproportionate amount of CMRA racers as NOLA is fairly close to many CMRA racers. It is a shame that there is an expectation that because a race is run by WERA that CMRA racers wouldn't want to attend.
For MANY, MANY years WERA and CMRA racers raced both in CMRA and WERA events in a very beneficial manner to all. This type of race and turnout was indicative of what should be a strong relationship with a National sanctioning body and the regional sanctioning body/racers.
Walter showed his true colors this race and went the extra mile, becuase he cares about the safety of motorcycle racers, there was a lot of CMRA racers there, and it was the right thing to do. He "iron manned" the drive and it only underscores that this is still about racing, safety, and people collectively working together.
We had a great time. I hope that the racers will realize this is not a CMRA v. WERA issue, etc., but an opportunity for the CMRA, WERA, and the racers to work together for better opportunities and exposure.
The road racing pie is really small right now, trying to cut it into even smaller pieces does no one any good right now.
Marcus

Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
I cant help but both agree and disagree with you Marcus. I see the value in the shared relationship but ultimately, we compete for the same dollar. I see it as a great friendly relationship at this point but if they get any closer or show with more frequency it would concern me.
Sean is a good dude but he is a business man and he will behave like one when the time comes. He takes good care of his boss.
Great job by everybody kicking some WERA tail. Great riding guys.

Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
Maybe if you tell more people to go race there there would be a better turn out.
You know me so well. You never fail to disappoint with some inane comments. Congrats. You're right, I don't promote people to go race at all, it's not what I do.
Bring a bike and help with the turn out.
No problem, I'll be waiting for that check from you to have me show up. Please send it in time for the next event so I can save myself the cost of my fuel and entries to Hallett. Oh yeah and tires, I'll need those too along with the hotel expenses.
I'm glad some of you are able to afford this hobby, I wish I could on more than a rare occasion.
So tom in short grow up and have a nice day
Grown ups are realistic Steven, and the observation about the poor turn out is realistic. I'd guess by the number of entries that WERA lost a lot of money. Even if they got a break on the cost, that track is ultra-expensive to rent. Reality is a bittch.
Sure as the sky is blue, folks are going to want to race NOLA. It's a new track and it's nice, very nice. The pavement is great, the amenities are top-notch, and it's near a cool (to some) place. But I can hear the whining now when the BOD/ Race Director say, "we'd like to, but we just can't afford to do it." Like my 7 year old, there are lots of folks who just can't understand financial responsibility and why money has to be a consideration, no matter how much you want the new toy.
I hope that the WERA event is a poor barometer and that entries for the next club event are over the top.
You have a nice day too.
Congrats to all the CMRA racers who kicked asses in their own way at NOLA; it's noticed. Even you Steven.

Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
well said Marcus. Chris. What i dont understand is the attitude that comes with most of your post. I have been getting it from all sides when i ask about things being fair and wanting to race for what is EARNED on the track, Like the 1 lap and get points.
Case in point Danny running off the track at Cresson and only doing 4 laps. No incentive to get back on and hunt down points by doing all the laps. there was 4 on the grid for the race. Yet we see no child left behind mentality here.
For some reason people think i have no say or my thoughts are not of value. I think i have paid for the value. I pay my money to race just like the rest and have paid over a longer period of time than most. I left CMRA when it left WERA in 99. That means for 9 yrs i only missed 1 race weekend.
I came back to have fun and race for what i earn.
Let me tell you I had fun and didnt have the oh he is here attitude when i showed up this past weekend.
Marcus said it best. But he is a better talker than i am. I call it like i see it. I have went to bat for my main competitor and helped get his points back after a mistake he made. It cost me very much. I can live with that. No one has ever went to bat for me here. If so it feel on deaf ears.
See thats what insults me the most. I can choose where to spend my $. But instead id love to see the CMRA grow and loose that attitude thing.
We as a club should look toward the future and stop this im better than you stuff. Its not healthy for the club or the members.
I have been through all the race directors and board member leadership. Some good some bad.
If we as a club are to grow in this hard times, maybe we should promote a positive message and not this we are better than them mentality.
I love this sport and have been there and done that in it.
Had good days and bad, But i am here!
I would like my fight to be with the track and all the turns not every key board jockey who promotes a negative message on here.
WERA was good for the members of CMRA once before.
We owned WERA once as a state and a club. I ask you one thing.
Just what does CMRA offer us racers as a club now? Beside a place to race and a meeting of like minded racers.
I can get a chance to win a NATIONAL title at WERA in vintage.
Yes i do love competition and look for it and accept it.
Seems like im not the only one wanting to go to the GNFs to try and win a title.
Now politics aside you tell me. I know its not everyone dream or focus and i dont speak for them.
But seeing how you and few do all the speaking for the club and have to get on here and drop a note you tell us.
I am in no way flaming you at a personal level. And anyone who wants to discuss anything can call me direct.
I look forward to hearing from anyone.
So let the rants begin.
Have a nice day.

Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
Tom, Steve, and Chris,
This is a good item to discuss, but maybe on the private board. Fact is, a lot of CMRA racers made it the NOLA (which WERA happened to run) and did good.
Hope this thread stays on point with that, because it was a lot of fun. Had Ty's fuel pump/pressure held up (he was running :44's practice), the CMRA riders would have won the majority of races at the event.
There were absolutely some fast riders and fast bikes from all over the country. I have always told Danny that since he get's to battle against guys like Ty, Derek, and Dustin every weekend, the WERA National would be an "easy weekend". We have some of the best racer's in the country in our club along with some of the hardest tracks to learn.
Running an event like NOLA/WERA underscores two things:
1) Our racers are good
2) Our racers like to race in venues where they can show their racecraft and validate the strength of our club.

Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
Congrats to all CMRA'ers that made the trip.
Brandon Altmeyer had a great weekend as did Bobby Davies, Dolph McVicker and Megan Wanat. And Will Boldt, Harold Lambert and Ben.
I had fun too, and I'm glad you had a good weekend Steve.
I hate too see you cry.

I may disagree with decisions made by officials now and then, such is life, but going to a WERA race reminds me how well run CMRA races are.

Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
I may disagree with decisions made by officials now and then, such is life, but going to a WERA race reminds me how well run CMRA races are.
And you came up with that opinion having never raced WERA before??? I would be happy to pass on your ideas on how to run a better event, as they are always open to constructive criticism.
-
Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
The Wera race was run very smoothly ( I left after race 13 or so.)
Seemed just as good as our Cmra days.
-
Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
I've got to agree with Matt on this one. I wanted to give Walter, Ryan, Nancy, and all the other CMRA officials a BIG hug after the NOLA race weekend. Minimum practice time on Friday, very early Race Calls, poor grouping of combined grids, and mass confusion didn't impress me much at all. Overall it was a great weekend, but I would love to see CMRA run a great event there.
-
Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
We didn't see any of the problems most of the folks are complaining about, but I guess we were on the wrong side of the pit.
If anything, the calls were VERY consistent and the program ran smooth.
I am glad they chose the format they did...ultimately, the schedule ran on-time and no one was seriously hurt. For a first time event, it was good.
Marcus
-
Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
The calls were consistant, but they were WERA style calls. We are used to 3rd call being at the time the bikes are released. Not a big deal just different. I thought it ran smooth especially since they had a skeleton crew. I hung out in the tower for a few to observe and soak up some AC. They run a great program, just like us.
-
Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
I thought race day ran smooth and no problem with the calls. The PA there is excellent just wish it was everywhere not just in the pits.
The run groups for the trackday were questionable. They were way too long and way too far apart.
Some of those groups could have been combined.
I think there were 5 bikes in my run group and maybe only 2 or 3 at a time were out on track.
I really had no one to follow for a good line. lol. I guess this particular event was low on attendance but the org. should be flexible to combine run groups like they did the races. Other than that it was a great event and the 5 minute board was awesome. CMRA should use the 5 minute board.

Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
In regard to airfence...
Racers and Trackday Dudes:
We are hosting another NOLA Motorsports Track Day on the 21-22 July. Yes, we heard you and will host the full weekend. We have also known there is a need for AIRFENCES. So NOLA MSP will DONATE the proceeds for the up-coming track day to the Roadracing World Airfence Foundation. In turn, we will eventually begin receiving sections of airfence for the North track. As you have seen the track has plenty of run-off but we see the need for airfence to INCREASE the safety measure of our customers.
The price for one day is 220.00 but if you book the full weekend the price will be 400.00 (tax included). You can register by clicking on the link below.
http://www.motorsportreg.com/index.c...0F2542356EBDE9
Please keep in mind the 225.00 or 400.00 dollars will go to increase the safety of the North Tack at NOLA.
-
Re: NOLA WERA race at the end of this month
Ryan and I deployed 22 30 foot sections of Airfence inflatable soft barriers at NOLA for the AMA Pro test (660 linear feet of coverage). 12 of those sections (360 linear feet) were deployed along the Armco on riders left at the exit of T16 coming onto the front strait. It is my understanding that NOLA plans to acquire at least enough Airfence Evo II sections to cover the T16 Armco.
Hats off to NOLA for stepping up and donating to the "Roadracing World Action Fund". Good people there I look forward to working with them in the future.
A couple of corrections to NOLAs email.
1) Airfence is spelled the same both singular and plural.
2) Donations go to the "Roadracing World Action Fund" not the "Roadracing World Airfence Foundation"
