It’s more than just the motor...an equal rider will go faster on a 400 than a 500, similar builds...
The R3 and 500 can be pretty close in lap times. The 500 has more top end, but the r3 handles better.

Then 2 races each seems like a pretty good compromise.
2, 2, & 2.
so I know for fact the 400 in race trim vs. my 500, c 1/4 tank of fuel, 500 has 42lbs on the 400. can we open the 500 to true 500cc? They aren't that slow but u have to ride pee pee out of them. I can get around pretty good on one, but I suspect I could go faster on 400....anyone have one for me to perform a test :biggrioops sorry...looked back at notes...its 47#...how could I have forgotten that number?
Just a thought, if we do 2,2,2 that means the 400s and 500s are effectively out of the points race for the ultwt #1 plate..best 3 races count, That means, if we do 2,2,2 then the R3/Ktm390 is the only bikes to have a shot at the new #! plate chase...is that what you guys want?
Truth bomb!
not every rider will think any thing is fair unless it favors them...I did NOT tell Kawasaki to build a ninja 400....CMRA hasnt even turned a wheel on the "current system" so i cant say what or who it favors.....if there was a way possible it would be 3,3,3 but there is no way to schedule it.....Personally im ok with doing away with the number 1 and going for class championships so everyone will think its "fair"
Please read the new class structure again. Each of the Ultralightweight bike will have at least 3 classes they can enter for the #1 plate.
250 - E Superstock, E Superbike, 300 Superstock
300 - 300 Superstoke, 300 superbike, 500 superstock
400/500 - 500 Superstock, 500 Superbike, ULWGP
Still favors the kawasaki 400. The 300 will have to race up a class and will not be competitive in the 3rd class. A superbike R3 will not be competitive against same rider on a stock 400. And a superbike R3 will not be legal for 300 superstock.
The number#1 plate will be a 400.
Will novices be practicing with experts in the big bike group?

I appreciate the sentiment in the frustration. Hopefully you'll find a lot of folks on 250s and just enjoy the crap out of racing with them... and whooping folks on 400s. You may not podium. Lesson I learned racing my SV650 for so long. If there was money to be won, I might feel different.
I enduranced SVs for a few hundred years and always had the chance to win. Didn't achieve it very regularly, but had the chance. They're still the bike in F2 (if F2 hasn't changed also) so not sure I see the relevance, but yeah, we'll still race and have fun.
It'd just be fun if last year's popular bike wasn't suddenly without a class this year. Just pushing to keep a class or two for 250's that don't allow the 300's. Seems there should be room in the operation for that. Not sure I've followed all of this discussion and it may be that it's absolutely the case, but the posts about "well, there are really no 250's anyway" are a little disheartening.
Happy to hear there will still be a couple of classes for the 250's. Thanks for that clarification. Gotta admit, I'm not thrilled about potentially being in the 3rd race and the 2nd-to-last race of the day. No matter if they flip the schedule or not, you're always at the end of the day all year.
"Some people would complain if you hung them with a brand new rope." Lol.
David, for a day or two the class structure was very different than what is shown now. What we have now seems pretty good to me.
I hope it works out.
Yeah, kind of putting that together gradually on my annual message board drop in. Lol. A bit hard to follow the trail, but yeah. But the 4x #1's strikes me wrong in any case so just jumping on the wagon on that one. Apologies. Nothing to see here. Keep it moving folks.
:soapbox: :deadhorse:
Great to hear! That sounds much better. It's almost like someone thought through this previously or something. Thanks Walter et al.!
