I dont see the lights as necessary.
I also dont trust lever guards to not cause injuries of their own.
However, I am not the expert on safety. You are. Considering your experience and the fact that MotoGP, WSBK and MotoAmerica use these same systems, I am likely in the wrong. It wouldn't be the first time. :tongue:

If brightness was an issue.....a simple resistor can fix that.

Will a battery operated red light (such as the type posted in this thread) safety wired to the bike for tech and then removed on a dry weekend be allowed ? I can guarantee you any bike I'm riding will not be on the track when it's wet and I don't want to permanently mount or wire one. Would it be possible for the red light rule to be clarified and mounting guidelines and what is/isn't acceptable be posted in the technical section of this forum in the same manner as Linz's posts/pictures on safety wiring......

IMO, the club should either provide a "spec" light for rain races that can easily be attached to bikes, OR specify ONE and only ONE type and brand of light for racers to purchase. youre going to end up with a million different types of cobbled together lights, and half of them are going to fall off or stop working.

Christmas lights. Just a big, knotted ball of red Christmas LEDs plugged into an inverter taped to the swingarm.

I feel like one or more spec lights is the way to go. Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Planet-Bike-Bl...dp/B000793NY4/. I would honestly be concerned about lights that are too bright rather than too dim. At a race start, seeing 20 different red lights mounted 20 different ways (under tail, over tail, side, etc.) bobbing about in front of you is going to be very distracting, especially if they're bright enough to cause a halo/twinkle effect on a wet faceshield.
