15 Yr old looking to race ULWGP aboard a RC390, wanting advice and questions answered
So I am 15 years old and have been riding bikes for 9 years, starting on a CRF50. Dirt has never been my thing, i used to have a CBR300R to ride with my dad cross state and to go fast on the backroads, but i have since upgraded to an FZ-09.
However now me and my dad want to get into CMRA racing. We have decided to want to get into racing in the 300's class aboard a RC390. I am wondering if there is anything advice that more seasoned trackers would like to share.
My experience and progression of bikes has been
XR-50 -> XR100 -> CL350 -> CBR300R -> FZ-09
I also have experience on atleast 10+ other bikes, (Me and my dad like to collect them!) My daily school driver is a Big bore Derbi senda 110, and i rjde my dads CB1100, Thruxton 900, and NightHawk 700SC. I like to think i have more experience than other people in my age group however i always know there is room for improvement.
And I have been riding my dad's sportier CB750 with clipon's and have managed to scrape knee on it.
I did go to a track day on my CBR300R ( And obviously starting to race would warrant more trackdays which we have lined up) But i was too scared to try since there were more powerful bikes, I had been paired up with a 600 for instance, and i was running stock everything on the bike ( I do not think it even had its 1000 mile maintenance yet!) I managed to scrape peg and exhaust on the CBR300R, That is kinda impressive. However I do know that that also means i have to work on my BP which i have been, training on my dads bikes. I have gotten better at "kissing the mirror" like the track day instructor told us to do. And I Believe that had i been with a similar CC group that i would have been more confident, I was the smallest bike there and that made me very scared for being passed in the straights.
But anyways I am very obsessed with the idea of racing, spending all of my free time in school researching the classes, bikes, rules, schedules. I know it is not cheap and that is why I am asking for help on the matter. THANK YOU SO SO MUCH!
After Asking similar questions to other track day people on the internet. They had suggested me many different routes such as MINIGP aboard an XR100 to get a taste for racing, the Typhoon Academy in texas for coaching, and several movies and podcasts to research. But anymore info would help me, Thanks so much!
