Anyway, this is way off topic, but similar to one on the WERA board some time back.

My 20+ year old $150 Pulsar quartz analog Diver's watch recently began having senior moments with its day/date function, and stops running every now and then (battery is new). Up until now, it has been a great watch--extremely accurate (I'm a nerd about that--see below), and extremely reliable; it's been to over 100 feet in both salt and fresh water, and the only thing ever to go wrong was the original rubber/plastic band broke about ten years ago.

Before that, I had a Rolex jewel movement stainless Submariner purchased after I got my Open Water Diver certification in April 1988 (the same month I took Rider's School!). It was an impressive watch (I traded a five year old Rolex stainless Datejust for it), but it kept (to me) terrible time--at least two minutes a month fast, from what I remember, but that is within the "Chronometer Standard" for jewel movement analog watches, which is something like -4/+6 seconds a day. I traded it on the Pulsar in 1991 and pocketed the cash difference.

Contrast this with my Pulsar, which was accurate to within .4 seconds a day (tested by setting it against the USNO Master Clock, www.time.gov ).

With the advent and subsequent dominance of dive computers, the wristwatch has become a backup timing device in diving, and most divers only wear them as jewelry (as is mostly the case in real life, with clocks now on everything).

However, I wanted a new watch to replace my beloved Pulsar, mainly for the above-mentioned reasons. I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money, so the TAG-Heuer Dive and other dee-luxe watches at over a grand were out of the picture. I picked Citizen Eco-Drive watches after doing extensive research, and yesterday took delivery of a Professional Diver 300m.

From the side it looks like a Tiger tank commander's turret hatch, and I think I could beat somebody up with it. We'll see how accurate it ends up being, but so far so good.

SO, any other timepiece nerds in the CMRA? Do tell...

I love my Tag dive watch, But it sits in the original box in my safe for the last 10yrs. It`s to nice for me to wear, but one of these days i`ll have to break it out.

For those of you who think I was rich or something when I bought that first Rolex, I was 22 or 23 living in San Antonio and going to college at UTSA, waiting tables at night and going to school during the day. I always wanted a Rolex. So I went to the mall jewelry store and filled out a credit app--22% APR for a kid with almost no credit history meant that I'd have to pay it off early or get taken to the cleaners, so I busted butt and did just that, just like the first motorcycle I bought behind my mother's back at 18.

Everything else since, including the college education and the fairly successful 20 year roadracing career, was done this way. If you want something bad enough...

I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure that time is an illusion.

Don't have to be an Einstein follower, they've dun proved that.

I don't know anything about watches and I rarely know what day it is, but I like that fancy new watch you procured.

Do they make diving watches that automagically sync with official cesium based time via radio waves?

Chuck, admitted watch (chronograph) junkie. Almost an identical Rolex story, but still have mine. Check out the Timex Racing Series. Good looking, Timex tough and very affordable.

I have a yacht master I've only worn three times. Once when I bought it and two special occasions. I don't even think it tells time anymore.

My daily is a 7 year old Casio G-shock with atomic time keeping and Solar recharged battery. It receieves a radio signal 6 times a day for time calibration. Extremely accurate. I used it when diving in cozumel with no problems.

However I hear great things about Suunto watches. Supposed to be a great diving watch and an amazing watch for airborne military.

Not a timepiece nerd but I've an Omega Constellation "Automatic Chronometer Officially Certified" inherited from a favorite uncle. It is a "C-shaped" calibre 751 movement, model 168.029. The movement serial number shows it was made in 1969.


It finally stopped keeping good time several years ago so I stopped wearing it. I had it opened to get at the numbers required to to research the model but haven't had the courage to send it off for the Omega service. Anyone have experience with that, I'd like to wear it again?

Well, I've had the Citizen almost a week, and it's just under a second fast, so will be fast by about 4 seconds a month. I can live with that...

Actually.....E=mc2 may be under further scrutany if CERN is correct.
