Go Texas!
CCS (club racing (not AMA or even Formula USA) result at Daytona)
Expert GTO: 1. Steve Rapp, Perris, Calif., Suzuki; 2. John Haner, Pearland, Texas, Suzuki 1000; 3. Larry Pegram, Hebron, Ohio, Yamaha 1000.
Not to restart the issue (neccessarily) but this is basic grass-roots club level racing, right?
Yes, this is sort of a warmup for Daytona. But you will see some big names there getting a jump on setup. So load up and go follow Haner around, maybe show him the fast line. It's just club racing.... At Daytona.

Wish I could go club racing with John.....At Daytona.... and keep up with him.
Fact, John Haner beat Larry Pegram...
Don't care if it was YSR racing, that's cool.
Yes, Larry rode for factory Ducati. He is not slow. But, he is not as fast as our John Haner! Not in this race.

I do believe John and Heath deserve mention regardless....they're there now and will be in the 200. I'd cheer on anybody from TX no matter what level they race. I also saw Kevin Mays name on the roster. Kudos to him as well.

Dude,
You're wrong for that on SOOO many levels.
While we're on the subject, maybe the CMRA should look into canceling contingency, trophy presentations, and the awards banquet. After all, it's just "basic grass-roots club level racing". Oh yeah, no pride or smiles after doing well in a race, either.
Congrats to the CMRA riders at Daytona,
ty
I agree with Ty, I always feel pretty good
after a win or doing well in our club And I will promise you anybody that says Daytona is all about Hp is wrong. Learning where and how to draft on the high bank is a skill and turn one is not for the meek! Not to mention jumping the
Imsa curbing in the chicane entrance.
Ty,
>> You're wrong for that on SOOO many levels.<<
Okay. Which levels? I'm tickled to see Haner running up front and would have loved to see him beat Rapp. My point was that the CCS podium read like an AMA podium.

I don't know how you got from here to there. What's the connection between my observation and this statement?
Maybe I'm just still ticked at Rapp for almost running me over in the pits at Daytona last year on his pitbike.
Seriously, I know that Haner has more talent in his little finger than I do in my whole body. I'm glad to see him doing well.
I see we all missed your point. That it looked the grid had more AMA privateers then ccs racers. To bad it went over our heads because it was a good point.
My bad.Quote:Originally posted by nicktulloh:

Your post seemed to imply that it was no big deal and Renate was praising a feat that did not deserve any credit due to the fact that it was only a club level race.
Beer on me at TWS.

Well, if the bikes are close, you're right. But, when I was out there with a decrepid 250 I built out of scrap... ...the top 250 was running 158 to my 138... You can't hope to draft like that, LOL! Maybe a rope and grapling hook woulda worked?Quote:Originally posted by Scott Levine:

You're right about T1. I never did feel real comfortable coming in there WFO and trying to brake past the 1 marker when I couldn't see around the bend. Blind apexs are bad enough, never mind braking that hard.
To be fair to my broke butt, back then, 80, 81, 250s were advancing very rapidly. I put together what I could afford to go out there and just do it. I knew I'd struggle to do anything on what I built, a C ('77) monoshock TZ chassis, B model cases, Kanemoto ported F top end, 38 Lectron's, and cut B pipes (attrocious pipes, I might add). If you went to the track with less than the very latest of TZs back then, you were an also ran from the start. My old F (79) was hot for exactly 1 season. The Gs got separate cylinders still parallel, but with base bolts The F had head bolts running through the cylinder on the RD pattern which greatly restricted transfer port area. The Gs also had the first power valves. The G was a great advance, then the cylinders got Veed and the G was history, LOL!
All that's not the case anymore, but 250, sadly, is quite dead now. It's not quite the difference going to the track with a year old 600 or liter bike now than back then on the 250s, but still, you'd be lucky to keep the draft on a well prepped ZX10R with a two year old Jixxer. But, if the rider is VERY good, just look at what E Boz did last year on the 636 in superstock! Whatta last lap THAT was, eh? Even at Daytona, a rider talent and skill is important.
OK kids, that concludes today's lesson on the history of an extinct form of roadracing. Tomorrow we will cover record players, the predecessor to the CD.Quote:Originally posted by Jack Giesecke:

Jack, I think it's cool how long you've been doing this. I just had to comment...
Sorry for the threadjack. Go Haner!
ty
Well, see, I was thinking of all that in context to the "not a horsepower track" thought... All I can remember is being on the banking half way between T1 and the chicane and having my painted on numbers sucked off by a new TZ flying by at superbike speeds. I was only there twice before I said, "Okay, been there, done that, can't afford it." LOL
Yeah, you gotta be on a bike with a motor and the money to do it right at Daytona to have a chance. John's got a good ride this season. He's runnin' with the big boys now! Woohoo! I'll submit to everyone here, John's never lacked the talent and ability, just the ride. Makes all the difference, especially at Daytona. Wish I could watch some this weekend on speedTV, but I'll be in Katy playing.
Oh, thanks, and BTW, I still have a turn table. In fact, there's an old 8 track recorder on the back porch that still works!...
