Oak Hill - Mike Sanchez secures New track Record 1:22.5
In the final race of the day, Michael Sanchez blew the doors off of the previous track record by setting not one but TWO laps below the previous fast lap of John Haner of 1:23.22 in September of 2000.
Mike settled into the B Superbike Race on the Shogun Motorsports GSXR-750 with the full intent of beating the lap record and did so. On the 3rd lap he pushed the mark to about a half a second below the previous record. On the next lap he hit his groove with the official track record being set at 1:22.565 using AMB electronic scoring. Nearly 7/10ths of a second faster than the previous record.
Congratulations Mike. I think "Pops" Sanchez put it best when he said "It's a team effort, and the CMRA is all part of our team."

Re: Oak Hill - Mike Sanchez secures New track Record 1:22.5
Mike has earned his success. He and his dedicated family are at some track virtually every weekend getting more practice. I have never known anyone who is more acutely focused on becoming a pro-level rider than Michael Sanchez. Hopefully his performance will get the national attention it deserves.

Perhaps we need to get this news to RRW? That's an amazing lap time, anyone have good enough math skills to determine the avg. speed?
Re: Oak Hill - Mike Sanchez secures New track Record 1:22.5
(length of track in miles) / (Lap time in seconds) * (seconds per minute) * (minutes per hour) = avg miles per hour
1.8 / 82.565 * 60 * 60 = 78.4836 miles per hour
Re: Oak Hill - Mike Sanchez secures New track Record 1:22.5
ET 11:10.76
AVG speed 81.58 MPH
Fast Lap 1:22.565 *Track Record*
Margin of Victory 31.04 sec
and I have no math skills- I just stole the official results off the board. :-)

Shan will make sure that the publications get the news.

I guess the heat made the track grow an extra 374.9596 feet longer?
I thought Oak Hill was 1.8 miles long. According to the numbers Joe posted it is a 1.871015 mile track.
Re: Oak Hill - Mike Sanchez secures New track Record 1:22.5
I thought it was 1.7, but I'm math challenged.
Re: Oak Hill - Mike Sanchez secures New track Record 1:22.5
I thought the race was at TWS this weekend. :p
Re: Oak Hill - Mike Sanchez secures New track Record 1:22.5
Congrats Amigo's!
The Sanchez guys know the real reason he is so fast because of the Scott Beckley dirt track racing school they attended at Bridgeport International Raceway this past fall.
Man that Michael is one fast dude on his CR 80MX bike! Yahoo look out here he comes!
Honestly bubba great lap record!

Man my hats off to Micheal, that is super fast around that little track. I remember back in 98 when I broke Colin's record, I thought that record would never be broken. It's hard to believe that novice racers are going faster than that know. Micheal's record should stand for awhile, if he or anyone else goes any faster around there the asphalt will probably crumple or melt away. Good luck to you are you brothers.

Excellent job sir and you did it on a SUZUKI.
Re: Oak Hill - Mike Sanchez secures New track Record 1:22.5
RRW always says that Sanchez took home Yamaha contingency money but he rides GSXR's. What gives?
Re: Oak Hill - Mike Sanchez secures New track Record 1:22.5
He runs a GSXR750 for the big bike and an R6 for the 600 now...
Re: Oak Hill - Mike Sanchez secures New track Record 1:22.5
Congrats to Mike and his family/crew! That is so awesome! I Have to take some of the credit though for Mike going so FAST! I gave him a hit of my famous Hot Sauce at TWS to get him flamed for speed! hehe WTG bud!

I would like to thank Brooks Gremmels of Shogun Motorsports and Steve Harvanek of Motion Cyclesports for all of their time and effort. Without them we would not have been able to win Daytona when Mike was an amateur in 2002, there was just no way. That win is what got everything rolling, mainly Mikes confidence.
To date Mike has three lap records, one CCS National Championship, one AMA Sports National Championship, 18 CMRA Regional Championships, two WERA National wins, and one Church of Speed win. I would like to take this time to dedicate all of our accomplishments to Brooks Gremmels and Steve Harvanek.
This past weekend at Oakhill Raceway, it was a fresh Shogun/Motion engine prepared by Steve Upchurch that allowed Mike to break the lap record. Don Finelli of Lonewrench.com did the chassis tweaking and had Mike CRUSHING the lap record multiple times and take his lap times down into the 1:22s. He has been a major part of our team in 2003. He set up the suspension on all of our bikes, and has done a lot of traveling with us this year. He and Chucky Giachetto are team up this year and are Lonewrench.com.
Thanks to everyone else who has helped us,
Sum of All Parts Joe B. and Danno, John Haner, Ben Spies, Jim Allen Dunlop Tires, South Central Race Center Pete Martins, Lonewrench.com, Texasmotosport.com, Austin Sports Cycles, Cycle Gear Austin, Dawson's Family Christmas, Suomy Helmets, Helimot Leathers and many others in the CMRA.
