Bridgestone bt-001 for $199? Worth it?
I have run on Michelins (last year), and Perellis (this year), I am a novice and not really fast yet, but for $199 a set, as I saw at OHR this weekend, are they no good or what? Sooo cheap but you dont see anyone on them, what gives? Saw a deal on line one group said dont count them out, but thats one guy, not exactly Road Race World.
Help me out, I might actually be able to run on brand new tires for once.

Re: Bridgestone bt-001 for $199? Worth it?
The person to ask would be Pete.
I can garantee you they aren't trash.
Michelin was selling tire real cheap last year
also.
They are probably either discontinued and are
selling the remaining stock at a substantial
discount to get them out of the way or
they are still pissy about the tire tests and
are trying to get a dig in at Dunlop.
Either way Pete has been around forever and
wouldn't sell a tire he didn't think was
safe or effective.
Same for David.
Re: Bridgestone bt-001 for $199? Worth it?
Not aledging thier junk, but how do they really compare to Dulops Michelins etc. How well do they work and perform?
Anyone with experience? How many heat cycles will they take, can they last a whole 6 hr endurance etc..
Thanks

Re: Bridgestone bt-001 for $199? Worth it?
When i tried them they were slick right out of the hole... once they were scuffed they seemed to hold okay... I personally wouldn't try them on a 6 hr. I run a SV 650 and they seem to be easy on tires. I'm partial to Mr. BiB... David has a great product and all my heros run Michelins. (so in my mind it makes me more like them) I've recently made up my mind on two topics...
If your Helmet touches the ground and your head is inside it.... get a new one.
On the entrance of any turn i want to focus on my line and my exit. I'll debate the condition of my tires after they have been removed from the wheel and I'm carting them back to my pit, not while they are on the bike.
These two items are way cheaper than my insurance deductible.
IMHO....
Re: Bridgestone bt-001 for $199? Worth it?
I guess thats one way to look at it, but I ain't gonna throw a $700 helmet in the trash just cause I bonked my head on the grass. If I did I would be out almost $2000 just in lids.
But you say OK for sprints, I dont care what my "heros" are doing, they get paid to play (and ride with the highest bidder) and I pay to play, 2 totally different worlds.

Re: Bridgestone bt-001 for $199? Worth it?
Brian,
I ran Bridgestones on the rs-80 this past weekend for a 6 hour endurance and we ended up 2nd overall. The tires seemed to be just as good as any other brand I have used in the past. I am partial to Dunlops but the bridgestones pay contingency in the mini class and they worked fine. My money will go to another set of bridgestones. I hope this helps.

Re: Bridgestone bt-001 for $199? Worth it?
Me and my teammate, Joseph McCamish, have run Dunlops, Metzlers, and Bridgestones. I ran Bridgestone all last season and they are a very good bargain. They are a very good bang for your buck. Yea, you can't go wrong with Dunlops or Metzlers, but the Bridgestones are not junk by any means. I actually prefer the Bridgestones over Dunlops. Metzlers are a GREAT tire, but I think you will be very satisfied if you try the Bridgestones. I know many fast guys that have run them are were satisfied with them. At TWS, Tony Rodio practiced on my bike, and R6, which had Bridgestones on it and he was impressed by them. If you do not know Tony, he was the man battling it our with Michael Sanchez all season in 2002, he is fast! He was unsure of them but after riding on them he was sold. We are now running them in the Endurance series. Still not sold, I think you could ask any of the Lone Star Track Day guys, and get the same answer, they ran them all last season. My teammate, Joseph McCamish, and I had a good season last year and we ran them all season. In MW GP, I was 3rd overall and he was 4th overall. He also finished 2nd overall in HW SS, and 5th in MW SS, all on Bridgestones!
This is all based on running SOFTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: Bridgestone bt-001 for $199? Worth it?
I used to run the BT-001 tires at track days before I was blessed enough (or dumb enough) to start racing... I don't have anywhere near enough experience to know the difference, but I thought they handled quite nicely and were predictable. I had them on an F4i if that makes any difference.

Thanks guys, I was just looking for some support for the product before I spent my had earned cash.

Re: Bridgestone bt-001 for $199? Worth it?
Yep, we ran the Bridgestones last season. The carcass is softer than a Michelin or a Dunlop, so your settings need to change some. Logevity is probably the achilles heal. They didn't seem to last as long as some of the other brands. Very consistent grip though. I ran some consistent 53s and 52s at TWS. I'm sure if you're a better rider, you can go faster on 'em.
Hope that helps.

Re: Bridgestone bt-001 for $199? Worth it?
FYI the $199 special was for medium compound.
I used a couple of pairs last year and thought they were the best out there when brand new. They didn't last anywhere close to as long though. Also, I didn't use them enough to confirm this, but I felt like they were teriffic when new, and steadily declined till they were worn out. This as opposed to other tires starting a notch below that, but staying at a higher level until they start going off..
That's a slow guys perspective anyway.
Re: Bridgestone bt-001 for $199? Worth it?
The mediums will most likey be your best bet anyway due the weather getting warmer.
Re: Bridgestone bt-001 for $199? Worth it?
I'd say you can have some faith in the Bridgestones. I am happy that Bridgestone is working so hard to make the tires better and better and I want to thank Pete and Bridgestone both because I won a championship last year and Bridgestones hung in there for me! The deal is awesome! I wouldn't pass it up. You might even save a buck or two and try them yourself to come up with your own conclussion.

Re: Bridgestone bt-001 for $199? Worth it?
I plan on getting a few sets we talked to Pete and might get some when we head to houston for the drags next week. Or if he'll be at the track we will just wait. I need some confidence to take me to the next level. I have hit the novice plateau, and confidence in my takeoffs is not helping.
thanks, guys!
