Second foot inching closer to the coffin?
Does anybody else think AMA is going the way of the horse drawn carriage?
Free live streaming, I hear, but yes, no TV coverage blows. You attract a lot of sponsors that way. Not. Maybe if Dingman took a pay cut...
DMG is to AMA racing, as Harley was to Buel. Road racing in the US is admittedly somewhat esoteric. But DMG has really let everyone down :(
Maybe it's the relentless bad-press and poor image that sport bike riders get in mainstream news for several years now, of the foolish street riding antics. This sport just seems to be losing any credible vision or visibility to the public. At COTA for MotoGP last year, and watching the evening news on Saturday, before the big Sunday event, they were more interested in talking about some stupid Reggae Festival, that probably didn't even have 20,000 people in town for, than the International 75,000+ people in town for GP. With about 7 minutes left in the broadcast, I called the station's news hotline, "Hey, did you all not hear that there's 75,000+ people in town from all over the planet for an event at COTA?!?", reply, "Oh yes, we have something coming up at the end of the news on that!". Then, they have maybe 30 seconds of coverage, the majority of it dominated by some Red Bull sponsored BASE jumper leaping off the big tower. WhoopieDoo!...
Well looks like John Ulrich is trying just start his own series because of DMG being so terrible!

Well ****.
If any of you actually knew what has gone on behind the scenes you'd have a different opinion. To assume that DMG is the cause of all this is simply wrong.
^ please enlighten us ............
Speaking strictly for myself, I never called out DMG. But I don't believe I said anything incorrect. So allow me to ask this:
1) The Daytona coverage is free via live streaming, correct?
2) Having no TV coverage is not a good way to attract sponsors, correct? Yes, you have to have money to be shown on network or cable TV, but if you don't show your product, your chances of attracting revenue goes way down, does it not?
3) Dingman makes a around $260K per annum. I know essentially what he does as I am surrounded by folks at levels as high or higher than he, and many make less than he does. Is his salary commensurate with his position?
As far as DMG, I know the sale from the AMA was worth about $180K per year over a ten-year span. Racing and racing venues are expensive. 1.8 million over 10 years doesn't leave a lot to make money on unless the racing grows in membership and attracts outside sponsors. Economics 101.
Heck, I'm all over free live streaming, or even pay as I have for Motogp over the last 4 years I've known about it. Maybe the ys were they are headed,... Would add some revenue.
With all due respect, the folks who are in charge are to blame. To blame the economy, the manufactures, the sponsors, the riders, TV stations or any thing other than whoever the bucks stops with is actually what's simply wrong, IMO. Whatever happened to taking responsibility for the crap you're responsible for, which in this case it's DMG's responsibility for the state of AMA pro racing.
Maybe they didn't plan well, didn't market well, or whatever but until people stop passing the buck and own their part in the problems I doubt much will change. There is some part they played in all this and need to own it and fix it.
non sense Brandt, you mean to tell me its NOT McDonalds' fault we choose to eat their fatty food that make us tip the scales into the double century mark...in case someone didnt catch it, thats my sarcasm.there is things DMG could have done to make it better, but im sure there was no way EVER they were gonna cut into their profit for the sake of the sport.
Joe, you just solved the problem, they need McDonald's marketing team! ;)
DMG stands for Da Money Gone - borrowed from a friend named Doug
Geez, Hayden Shultz did really well in the Daytona Harley race!
How was the streaming today? I was working.
I was streaming the races on the phone at work. It looked like a production that's aired on TV with cameramen following bikes in the corners and someone choosing which camera's video to show. For the survival of the sport, I hope the AMA picks up some good TV package, but it was nice to watch all the racing live and without commercials.
I rather have it as it is on fanschoice, only thing I don't like, can't see the ones I missed...
I think its been pretty damn nice actually. You get to see a lot more than you would normally. The warm-ups, practice, qualifying, plus the races that are not televised. Sure there are some hiccups every once in a while and the resolution could be better but its a new deal so its to be expected.
Plus my buddy is working the camera in the west horseshoe so its pretty cool to see his work.
I agree - the production during the races is very similar to what was previously televised on speed, etc., right down to the commentary. the resolution sucks, but I'd rather they do that and ensure fewer glitches in the live stream.
the "be your own director" with the extra camera angles doesn't seem to do much right now - looks like camera 2 is the finish line feed and camera 3 is the press conference room (with limited audio, as far as I can tell).
