I sprained my ankle pretty good in my Gaerne G-RW boots, which from what I've seen are suppose to have pretty good ankle roll protection. My boots are still in good shape and maybe it didnt matter what I was wearing but I want to prevent this with a better pair if possible.
I know Sidi is suppose to be the best but is the ankle support going to be that much more than what Im in now?
My former brother in law got in a backroads tussle with a car years ago while he was wearing his Sidi's. Up until then, i never saw a reason to pay that much for boots.
Needless to say he limped off with just a swollen ankle.
The side spine broke on impact.
So, that right there sold me on the Sidi's.
I haven't done much research but, i don't know of the other brands that have that outer ankle protection like Sidi's.
But, hopefully i never have to personally test mine out like he did.

Mine do have the outer ankle support and some of the Sidi's have them also.
I just didn't want to spend a couple hundred dollars and not really be any better protected.
I did find a post on the 600rr forum about boots and ankle protection but I couldn't find the posters sources.
Obviously every crash is different when it comes to rider impact and way they fall however, my crash on Sunday was almost identical to yours including the same corner and my SIDIs held up perfectly and not one bit of issues in my feet or ankles from the excursion. The got scuffed up pretty good as well to the point I need to replace some of the plastic protection bits. I'd say they worked well for me.

I was concerned with ankles myself and read great things about the Supertech R. I picked mine up from Rider's Discount, as the "2015 model" is on clearance right now. If you hurry you might be able to snag a pair in your size at a great price.
The inner bootie design is really neat, you can snug them up tightly and there is some good added support in there.

We haven't been very impressed with the A*s. They don't seem to offer the same level of protection as Sidi. My son has crash tested his Sidi Mag-1s on 3 occasions. Most recently at speed at TWS last weekend. He came away with a hand injury, but absolutely no injuries to his feet or ankles. I had to order some replacement parts for the boots, but I'll take that any day over an injury. He says they're extremely comfortable and I feel like they offer excellent protection.

Dainese are unbeatable. I've had 3 bad sprains all with Alpinestars. I finally got sick of it and tried on every boot I could find. All you have to do is put on any boot you are considering and then try to roll your ankle while standing in them. With Alpinestars and Sidi I could bend my ankle with ease then I tried Dainese and it wasn't happening. Haven't had an ankle injury since I started wearing Dainese in 2012. Super easy to put on. No clips, bands, straps or velcro to mess with. one zipper and done. I've crashed in them 8 times that I can remember and haven't had to replace a thing nor have a so much as had a twist of the ankle.
When you try them on you will see. That's my 2 cents. Good luck
I've always ran the A* Supertechs and have been happy with the protection level. I've had the bike land on my ankle with them on and walked away, not limped.
I currently run TCXs, which I've been very happy with. Limited amount of motion on them as far as ankle movement is concerned, and very easy to get into/out of.
A* supertechs here.. 5 crashes in 3 years with the same boots.. zero ankle or foot problems.
Loved my Sidi Vortices until the soles started to fall off. Then duct taped them together and kept using them. I need to get another set or get these resoled.
I love the feel of the A-stars but their toe slider is in the wrong spot. Also, they offer zero protection which is why they feel so good.
While the SIDI boots offer great protection, one crash and the fishing line breaks.
My most recent love has come in the form of the StylMartin boots. They are hard to find, but they offer the best protection/feel combo. Audrey @ MotoLiberty stocks them. I would encourage everyone to go try on a pair. They are also resonably priced.
I have yet to have any damage to my Vortices and I've crashed in them about 4 times, ranging from 40-130 mph, all low sides.

Daytona Frey is the only boot i will wear. Expensive but worth it IMO. Kevlar inner boot with hinge at ankle and a leather outer. very light and no plastic crap to break or wear out.

I found out the hard way several years ago about cheap boots on the MX track and broke my ankle. Every day I am reminded about that! I was fanatical about ankle roll protection when I bought mine. I looked at most of the top contenders on the market 2 years ago. I really, really wanted to buy the Vortice. Although the ankle roll support is outstanding on one side, but fails to connect the hard parts to the sole on the other. You can roll flex it by hand in that axis, so I had to keep looking, although the other features of the boot are really appealing.
Long story short, the Alpinestars Supertech Rs, were the best I found in ankle roll protection with the inner boot structure. The lower models did not have the support I was seeking, although they had everything else.
We are fortunate to have MotoLiberty in our backyard to compare a lot of the top models. The best advice is to try them on and twist them in your weak direction and see who wins. Keep us posted on your findings, as models change all the time.
The problem with a boot that is too rigid rigid is that it transfers all of it to you knee. That's why I went with A*s over sidi, also didn't like all the external parts that could possibly get caught on a peg or something. Couple low sides and only one hand injury. Love the boots.
A* Supertech R's here. I had a decent crash at MSRH last year and had no foot/ankle issues. The internal ankle brace system seems to work really well and A*s offers plenty of replacement parts for them.
I'm very late to this. But look into the Puma 1000 race boots. V1 thru V4 with their patented ghost doctor technology.
My V1s feels indestructible. I've had them over 5 years and they simply won't die.

They're heavy, pricey and like all Puma and Sidi, fit narrow as fuk.
