Racing help

I'm really going to try to "race" next season! I know there are racing schools out there. I've never been to one. But I would surely think there is one of you EXPERT racers out there that would willing to be my teacher. I have done many track days with Lonestartrackdays.com over the past three years and have learned a great deal! But I have some problems on the track, mainly with passing and braking to name a couple things (I'm sure there are many things) I guess I worry that I'm going to piss someone off or cause and accident (that's pathetic! lol)
Tomorrow if all goes well, I'll be returning with an Aprilia Rs250 and that's what I've chosen for my real first Racebike!

After having ridden my TL1000s at the last trackday, I realized that my Ex500 is ready to be put aside. I hope the Aprilia will be the ticket!

If this is an unrealistic approach regarding a teacher, then I'll seek out a race school. I just feel I'd like a mentor/role model.

I'd like some feedback on this topic please. I don't know how I would do this: like on a track day or at a track like Henderson where you can go to the track at a lesser rate or at a trackday. Agh! and what kind of payment for services rendered.

I guess this couldn't possibly happen until better weather; it's so unpredictable right now!

Try Ty Howard, he has a program at MSR or Marcus McBain will do one at Oakhill. I've done Ty's and picked up a few seconds on my personal bests, and I'm still trying to get together with Marcus for some one on one. Good Luck and see you on the grid.

If you have been doing track days that is great experiance. The race school will teach you about the flags and what to do in different situations, red flag or black flag, things like that. They do give you help about riding but alot about safty.
Get your license and get out there. You have any questions there are alot of experts that will help you.
Your best track time is endurance, and you hold your line, they'll find a way around you.

I do have my race license, CMRA #298, and did the races to get it. I love my number! I would love to do endurance, but I just have this thing about someone riding my bike! Is that selfish? no one treats your bike as well as you will.

I guess I'll just look for the next race school. I feel I'm ready to progress and anxious to get back to the track!

For the guy who wants to learn I suggest a bike that will get its rider the most track time they can afford. If you can afford to hit $125 track days and $300 tire bills once a month then go for it. What I have found to be great fun and even better training is a motard. A few months ago I would have told you a mini motard of some sort but my new KTM 525 works great on my local kart track and the tires are holding up very well. The key to learning is track time PERIOD.. If you are stuck on the full fairing bikes I can't blame you, but try to get it on the track as often as you can. As far as training goes, Check out the "Again this Saturday" post and see what talent you can surround yourself with for a whole day. I get to ride with the likes of Ty Howard, John Haner, Shannon B., and don't count out the other guys on the list. They are all fast. Total cost of riding from 9-6 will be $50 plus the other usual expenses. Good luck on whatever decision you make.

I think the absolute BEST way to learn is the kart tracks and minis. You can run the big tracks, too, with CMRA. You WILL learn to carry cornerspeed on a 7 horsepower mini, I gaurantee it, LOL! It's cheaper, offers the most practice and track time, lower speed get offs when they DO happen, best way to go from all angles. Of course, I started big and worked backwards to figure out how much fun it was.

two words: TRACK TIME! i spent the first 3 years of my roadracing career doing endurance. mainly cause i didn't have my own bike, but the track time is the best. try to get hooked up with a team or start one yourself.
