Single cylinder, 4 stroke, air cooled, 200cc?

5 Speed, inverted forks, and dual disk brakes? Maybe I can run it in the Ninja 250 class? I like to be the odd ball.

Hmmm... "I like to be the odd ball...."
Ok, fine. No problem.
Smiley is our odd ball.
It was a nice gig while it lasted, but I'm glad you've got it now.

I dunno.
375# is heavy for a little 200. Did you notice that?
All the weight and 1/3 to 1/2 the power of an SV.
It is legal for F4, but you would get smoked by Ninja 250s and Hon RS80s

It's because it's made of solid STEEL... Quote:Originally posted by Roger Albert:

Could you even find parts for this bike?
Based on the technology it might qualify directly into a vintage class? Kick start and CDI, haven't seen that in a while.

Yeah, it is a Chinese Pig but I've always said you can have fun racing anything as long as you have several of the same thing...I could still pass McCoy on it!
It is pretty cheap but knowing spares and performance parts might be a tough find I suppose I will dream of someday owning a Ninja 250
Aren't these guys the ones getting sued by Yamaha?
Why would Yamaha sue Chris & I?
They can't MAKE us ride Yamahas, can they?

Thats actually pretty funny, in the last Racer X magazine, David Pingree did an article about racing one of these Chinese bikes (mx version), It was Hilarious! He actually bought one from an auto parts store, fixed it up a bit, and did like 2 laps before he killed it! It wouldn't even make it up Mount St. Helens (a big uphill)at Glen Helen MX track in So. Cal. Good Stuff
Myles
PS, Walter would kill you after you dumped all your oil on the track 4 turns into the race!
Is it just me, or does it looks like a cheap rip off of a Ninja 250.Quote:Originally posted by CHRIS SMILEY:

So are you in the market for a Ninja 250? I've got an inside line on an '04 if you're interested...
Yeah send me some pics/details...csmileyman@excite.com.
I was really into this idea when I thought that it would be a bone stock type, put on some wire, numbers, and race it class. I might still enter it if I can find the right bike. I do not like the idea of fork, shock, brake, engine upgrades. They race these in AFM and some can get pretty pricey. In the 250 roll call thread some members were doing $2-3000 in mods
I've got one of the enduros. The motor is nice, actually.
Bike is heavy, old tech, and the metal is 'soft'. The one I have doesn't have upside down forks or anything.
However, I've ridden it in the woods about 5 or 6 times at least and now my son is riding it.
The only thing kinda scary is the triple clamps and forks are fairly thin, but it's not an MX bike.
You could twist the bike up pretty easy if you rode it hard enough.
Don't write off the Chinese invasion just yet. Their learning curve (helped by there, uh, lax copyright and patent laws) is advancing extremely quick.
Remember some of the first Japanese bikes were virtual copies of British machines (although I believe they legally bought the tooling).
Well, you kind need to upgrade the suspension. The stock suspension is a wreck waiting to happen. There is ZERO adjustablility. However, I totally agree with you on engine mods, and I pretty sure none of the CMRA folks are doing any of that. As far as the brakes go, I don't think anybody is doing any kind of mod other than pads... The way I understood it was that people were going to approach it with the a similar mentalitily as a superstock class...Quote:Originally posted by CHRIS SMILEY:

......you can put as much lipstick on a pig as you want, it is still a pig.
I have sold a few of the DPs with that motor (I'm pretty sure it's the same) in 'em, have one here. They're fun bikes, strong motor (mechanically, not power output wise) and fun to ride. But, with proper gearing, it might top 65-70 mph. It's not a power house. The good thing is the price and that the motor seems quite reliable on the things. I think it could handle the floggin' without breaking, but you'd get lapped every third lap by the YSRs. LOL! And, you'd have to have all motor work done by a specialty race shop like http://www.barebones.net that would research what could be done, what parts could be used, and machine parts for it. You wouldn't be able to buy off the shelf cams, takegawa stuff, etc. By the time you paid for all that, you could be racing a new TZ250...
Ahhh, What I wouldn't give to race a TZ!
How about some where between $8,000 to $10,000?
Come on, sell your 6R and get a TZ... do it, DO IT...
