Write a letter to Walter/BoD requesting the rule change. Cite your reasoning for permitting the new models, and may I recommend you index the performance of the model (motor, chassis, brakes, etc) to existing eligible machines, as that's the real criteria.
The purpose of the MC class is all those great "one or two generation back" bikes we have in our garages that aren't quite up to the modern stuff, but are still good rides. Ask how your proposed bike fits well into that mindset, and I'll bet you can write a proposal for a rule change.
Honestly I'd be pretty pissed if we bumped it up a year as I just spent a ton of money on my 05 gsxr to race in MC. The 06 is atleast a million times a better bike. My built 05 Gsxr750 is a tank and a pile of **** compared to a stock 06 750.
Hmm
I think you're missing the purpose and mindset of Classic / Modern Classic in the CMRA. Please read Jim Dugger's post with an open and thoughtful mind.
The CMRA is not AHRMA, and probably wouldn't benefit from trying to become that. These are not classes that go toward our overall champ points - there's a clue in that about the purpose and mindset behind them.
It strikes me that if you've got a dated A-B-C machine and enjoy racing with your friends, then MC is an opportunity for that fun. If your 'fun' is MC trophy collecting, then there's a clear path for you to make a run at that, too.
If your agenda is to push for A-B-C type sub-class scoring in MC just so there's more chances for trophy collecting .... well please, stop, look (at historic entries) and think. The numbers of machines in each of those C or MC sub-classes would likely be so small as to make the 'meaningfulness' of those trophies, well, 'meaningless' (unless you find 'everyone gets a trophy' meaningful).
You know I'm not on the BoD and all this is just my opinion based on observation. Worth exactly nothing to you. But looking from the 'outside' I can see a value and sensibility to the current C and MC class structures within the context of the CMRA. It is based on allowing, but not forcing, a racer mindset a bit different from virtually all other classes we offer. That's part of what makes them kinda cool, IMHO.
Please understand I'm not at all in any way trying to 'slam' you or anything remotely like that .... just trying to maybe help you see a different viewpoint for your consideration.
Thank you for slamming me Alan. Jk. I understand what the class is all about. I've considered entering it many times. I would never push for sub classes in MC. That would be overkill. What would be next, vintage and classic sub classes?
As for trophy hunting, have you seen my results? I'm clearly not a trophy hunter. I'm the guy who gets a trophy when certain people ahead of me don't show up or crash(if you're going to do it, slow lowsides are preferred). Lol.
It's a fun class, but the bottom line is we're here to race. Whether you want to beat everyone else or just your own personal times, we all want to win.
