Some people feel a challenge in their current status and decide:
"It's impossible to race competitively as an expert with out spending 20k a year.
...blah, blah, blah...If you can't be competitive, there is no point in doing it."
Others decide to bump to Expert and keep racing to see where it takes them.
Different strokes for different folks; neither action is necessarily wrong, just different paths to take.
