I tried the "Welcome to Wal-Mart" thing when I got furloughed. j/k. I thought about a career change though. Now I think of a side career to suppliment my expensive hobbies.
The simple fact for me is that I enjoy what I do enough to put up with the ups and downs.
I'll miss you and your family next season and hope you can come back sooner rather than later.

IT SUCKS!!!!!!
It really sucks to lose your job because your industry took a dump. It sucks more if you lose your job not because you’re not qualified or because you do a crappy job but because you can't live on $500 a month. I was outsourced recently. You have no idea how humiliating it is to have to train your replacement to do your job and he sucks at it but he will do it for so much less than you can. You get to sit down and try to teach this fresh out of out college idiot everything you know in 2 months and then you get to leave. If you don’t train him then you don’t get a severance and therefore go broke about 3 months earlier than you will normally in this situation.
The outsourcing of America is bad folks, plain and simple. Only the CEO's get richer. I could go on for hours about this but I'm telling you this; there is nothing safe from those outsourcing bastards! CEO’s, CIO’s, CFO’s know the offshore workers suck but they don't care because it saves a buck or two for now. They will have to spend it later when the system fails and those idiots go home because they don't give a **** since their 12,000 miles away and could care less. But for now it is what every company is doing so they all have to do it. Outsourcing is not the fix for all things and people better wake up and see that we are shooting ourselves in the foot by letting this go on.
Technology is what makes America great. We were the first to put a man on the moon. Do you think we did this by outsource? We are shipping all the research and design off shore. Ford sent 4,000 engineering jobs offshore. IBM 5,000. Microsoft 4,000. What is next? Is my new Ford going to have a curry holder instead of a cup holder? All the technology that helps us to be competitive is going away. We have a trade deficit of 45 BILLION a month. That means we buy more than we sell. This should scare you…. It sure does me!!!
One last point here and this is the really scary ****. Accenture got the Homeland Security contract. 10 BILLION DOLLARS. Do you know where they are located? The GOD D#@! Dominican Republic!!! That is total Bulls#$&. They don't pay taxes, that is why they are based there. We gave homeland security to a company that isn’t American?!?!?! And guess who is going to be writing all the code that will keep us safe from terrorists? Guess?????
People in Bangalore and Manila!!!! Yes folks they are going to outsource homeland security!!!!! The people around the world, who suck at writing code and testing it… I know this, I work with them a lot, are going to be writing the code that keeps YOU safe. Do you really think they care? Do you think that if they write ****ty code it will keep them up at night? And here is the best part...
YOU ARE ALL PAYING FOR THIS!!!!!! THIS IS YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK!!!!

heard that on the outsourcing... sorry it has it you so hard. It kills me that the gov (local & feds) gives tax breaks to these companies. For "bringing" jobs to an area, only to ship the jobs off to foreign soils. The penedulm will swing back soon, it always does.. :-)
Web Dev has taken a nose dive this last month, I do a lot of flash/html work for you guess it... AA... so the rest of the year doesn't look to promising, I have been thinking of yet another career, maybe something in construction biz or hang with Cathy at Walmart. :-)
