New rider questions

I am wanting to get into road racing but have some question about cost.I have been looking at the classified and it seems you can get a 06ish 600 for about $4000-$4500 are these bikes competive?
Also what is the average cost to go racing for the weekend for tires,entry fee etc.Any other info would be appreciated and is any there anyone from the Oklahoma City area

Welcome to the forum! Others will surely chime in, but I would say you need to be less concerned about being competitive and more focused on learning. If you haven't done track days yet, that will be your first order of business. Hit Lone Star Track Days or Ridesmart Track days and get a feel for what they are all about. You may get all the action you need with that route, and many do. I did for years. If at that point you think racing is your thing, you'll begin to have a better feel for tire cost, race weekend cost, etc. It varies greatly based on what you ride, how many classes you ride in, how far away...what you have or don't have...

Any way you slice it though...it ain't cheap.

any bike built in the last 6-7 years will be about as competitive as you are. I race a 2006 in the expert classes and don't feel the bike is holding me back.
