    07-08 R1 Keyless Ignition Issue/Question

The bike is wired with a keyless ignition, but I didn't do it...don't know how it was done. Catch is, I have to disconnect the battery as it will run down. I think this is common for Yamaha. I think the drain comes from the dash...but regardless, this is a PIA.

Anyone know how to fix? I can run a "master" switch, no worries, but that's TWO switches that can fail (engine cut off switch/master switch).

    Any hints appreciated.

My r6 has 2 switches not sure why though.
I was under the impression that it was common for Yamaha.

The GSXR only had 1 switch.

Can you look and tell us how it is currently wired? See if you can tell what they did with the old ignition wires as well.

Will do...right now, it's the handlebar switch only. There IS an aftermarket wire running on the right side with a blade connection. Disconnecting will prevent the battery from draining...but I don't mess with....that'll last about one time!

Something is not wired correctly if there is a draw on the battery.

I'm not understanding the need for the aftermarket wire. My 09 is wired to bypass the ignition. Everything is controlled through my kill switch with no extra wires. I'll dig into it if necessary.

Like Keith said it shouldn't have a draw, something is wrong somewhere. A wiring diagram may help you determine the issue. Wiring in a relay would work as well. I've used two set-ups, direct wire and relays, both worked but the relay system utilized direct routes and larger gauge wires.

I'm in Dallas if you need a hand.

If it's an odd job it's probably just bypassed the ignition, not the rest so your ecu is powered up all the time.
