    Question Pit Board?

OK... I haven't found any reasonably priced pit-boards for sale that I like, and I don't want to spend $400+ for the ones I do like.

So, if we have any local vendors selling something reasonable, then please let me know.

In the meantime... I'm going to attempt to make this one:

This one belonged to a racer here by the name of Dave Thompson... I tried PMing him but he hasn't been active on here for about a year.

Anyway... I get the PVC frame. That's the easy part. Does anybody know what specific parts could be used for the "innards"? Looks like some sort of plastic carboard backing and some sort of "track" on the top and bottom of each row.

Also... if anyone knows where to get a set of card-stock hi-vis numeral cards, I'd appreciate that too.

    Thanks guys!

The backing looks to be the same type as a bandit sign. Those are the signs you see on the side of the road advertising for politicians and house flippers and other upstanding-type folks (hence the name). Pretty durable stuff and super cheap. They should be available at any office supply store or print shop. If I had to guess on the track, I'd say it's just aluminum. You should be able to cut a slot in the PVC with a rotary saw and glue it into place pretty easily. As for the lettering... check your local hobby or art supply store. They should have plenty of options.

We (and by we I mean Daisy did most of the work) made this last year.

    The innards are - http://www.homedepot.com/p/The-Hillm...4496/202982584
The letters are custom from 212Deacls on more of that board stuff.

We got a grommet kit to do the holes and neon zip ties.

We have the hard velcro on the board and soft velcro on the words/numbers

All in I think we were around $50 and a couple hours, including the shopping, give or take

I wanted to do a handle more like the one in your picture but they way we ended up doing it was slight cheaper, easier and the double handle lets you use it from either side.

Good good stuff!!! Lace painted ours black (to match our team colors), no handle, just PVC pipe, hand cut the numbers/symbols out of a roll of vinyl she bought online for a couple dollars, Velcro, grommet kit, and the corrigated board from Lowes/Home Depot. It's held up rather well during 2015. A little TLC on the paint and letters during the off season because we definitely don't "baby" it. Holds up rather well in the rain and extreme conditions also!

Most of the store bought versions measure 22 1/4 x 29 1/4 for a three row board.

We just bought this one. Best deal we could find. We looked into making one and after pipe, coraplast sign materials, printing all the lettering and time to build it was going to cost about the same.

Lacey's was our inspiration. She was nice enough to let me borrow it last year.

We just did a whiteboard(for random messages), and painted the back with the "pit in" message
