You're selling the bike, but the title is $600 extra? Why?

I was wondering the same thing as well. Never seen anyone do that/say that before...seems sketchy. Title should always go with the bike (or the frame if you part it out).

Have a clean Texas title in hand but not converted to my name, it will cost me 8.75% or whatever to get in my name. If you don't care about title (ex: dedicated track bike) then you save 600 bucks.

Vehicle sales tax is 6.25% in TX. And you can put whatever sale value you like on the form. Most guys just put an obnoxiously low number and, if questioned, say it's been wrecked and doesn't run. You can probably get that title in your name for something like $200.

    adding...

Kris, if you have not signed the title (I believe) you can just give it to the purchaser and they can register as if they bought from the previous owner. Once you have signed it then it has to follow the path you mention above

Correct Jimmy. Unfortunately I tried to perform a title only transfer but tax office tried to make me pay for the full registration. So unfortunelty everything is signed and dated, FML. I had success with title only transfers in the past with only a 50$ payment. Guess those times are over.

They go by "book value" of the vehicle for taxes now, don't they?
