GoPro HD/HD2 play videos on your Smart Phone

I have an older HD 2 and GoPro will tell you that you have to purchase the wifi backpack to play the videos on your phone. I asked and they said a cable will not allow for the videos to be seen. All the new cameras have wifi and that is great and all but I didn't want to have to buy one.

I have one of these $5 cables from when my old android screen broke.

It allowed me to plug a mouse into the phone so I could unlock it and transfer all my old photos and data that I had saved, to my new phone. (Verizon didn't know about this either and told me I would have to pay to fix the screen)

Anyways with this same cable I can plug in the GoPro's usb cable and I can view the files through the phones File Manager.
In the File Manager just expand out until you can see the SD Harddrive on the GoPro and the videos will be in there.

Just figured I would share for anyone wanting the New Camera just to view videos while at the track or maybe you could keep the laptop at home. The same type of cable can be purchased for a iphone I am sure.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing. I think it's unlikely non-jailbroken iPhones can do this. The SD card readers could accomplish essentially the same thing... I think.

My SD card reader won't read the SDHC card so I have to use the GoPro as the card reader. Neither my LG G2 or V10 are jail broken.
I was told that the phones has to be compatible with the OTG (On The Go) cable that I linked to.
