Is CMRA ready for the DPS OFFICE to regulate the racers

Is CMRA ready to let the DPS OFFICE(motorcycle safety foundation section) tell racers' how we should race and handle our business on the track while racing?lol, it seems now that the DPS WILL be involved with track schools and with instructors who do private lessons. Will Walter need to get a motorcycle safety foundation instructors certificate in order to run this great organization that is CMRA?

right now the regulation is more around background checks than curriculum. That doesnt make me any more happy about all this but at least we arent out there putting a 2x4 across the track one session or teaching to never brake while leaned.

Walter does not teach the CMRA License School. DPS-certified LSTD instructors teach our Friday school.

What?! And no one is concerned that the DPS is now regulating a class that teaches folks how to road race!?! What a bunch of BS. And our stance, as a "closed course private property road racing club" is " LSTD uses DPS certified instructors to teach our class" ? The DPS needs to back off.

Give me a break. This is horrible.

+1 and why was not other schools warn about the steps dps was taking to crack down on this so every other school had a heads up,I don't think dps has the right to regulate us when we are on private properties like the race track :(

B, I think Nancy was taking the diplomatic approach for now: "it's a non-issue for us since we don't need to worry about that part." I agree with you, of course, that this enforcement of a misunderstanding of the law and a lack of sensibility is absurd.

My reply was in response to Jimmy suggesting that Walter would need to be certified....and it was my personal response, not "our stance". I'm not going to freak out until I actually have a link to the information and/or see a copy of the letter that all of the tracks have received.

This is nothing new...the other schools were advised of the state requirement prior to this year. As a matter of fact, DPS certified instructors was one of the requirements to be a CMRA License School provider this year. Thhe License School Provider information is on the Forms Page of our website here: http://www.cmraracing.com/pdf/2012/F...0Agreement.pdf.

Thanks Nancy. Sorry to jump the gun.

I was unable to get DPS certified and have been asked to stop instructing folks, for consideration, on how to ride a motorcycle around the race track. I'm struggling to grasp how the DPS can be in control of road race instruction. I struggle equally with how they can dictate to a racing club that someone would need to be certified by them (the DPS) to teach a private club level road racing class.

I'm hoping we look into that and see if they are overstepping their boundaries or misinterpreting the law.
