At a race start, seeing 20 different red lights mounted 20 different ways (under tail, over tail, side, etc.) bobbing about in front of you is going to be very distracting, especially if they're bright enough to cause a halo/twinkle effect on a wet faceshield.
exactly. all the lights need to look the same. same shape, same brightness etc. they all need to mount in the same place on the bike. this rule doesnt seem to be very well thought out. all the lights need to be mounted to the top of the tail section, and be the same.

That might usually be the case when your visor is covered in water anyway.
Honestly if we are to have the red light on the tail of the bike I'd like to have the choice to run which one I want to run.
If you want the light to be limited to a particular one, then the club should buy a bunch of them at a discount and sell or rent them like the transponders.

For what its worth: Ive raced a series that required both red taillight and a head light. The red taillight isn't that big of deal on the track in the rain, and they had every light and mount you can imagine. I don't think the sky is actually going to fall....lets get thru the 1st rain race with em then see.

Ok lets not make this light project more difficult than it has to be.

Here is what I'm going to do on my bikes. This light ( see link below ) is $10.00 and has 3 little led bulbs in it. It's 1.5" long by 3/4" high and sticks out about 1/2 an inch. Perfect to be mounted UNDER any tail section. On the newer GSXR 1000, the bike actually has a place to mount it that's just where the bodywork and sub-frame come together so I wont even have to disconnect the light to remove the bodywork. Just drill a little hole for the wire, pull the double sided tape and stick it on.

Most bikes, like mine have the stock wiring harness. What I'm going to do is get the connector off an OEM tail light and wire it to this light so when it's plugged in, the light will turn on when the bike is running but off and not drain the battery when it's not. Since, however it has to be off at all times unless the event has been declared a "wet" event, I'm just going to leave it unplugged and when an event is declared wet, I'll just pull the seat and plug it in. You can also wire it to a toggle switch and hardwire it to a constant power source. Whatever is easiest for your bike.

I know several who have commented are mechanics and will do it a different way, I'm just giving ideas for people who have no idea where to start.

This is my plan unless Walter or any CMRA official says this isn't the type of light or look they're going for.

Here it is in the daylight. Not that bad. Not distracting. Just enough to be noticed. As soon as I get a rainy day, I'll set up a follow cam. If I need to cover up half the lights with tape then so be it.

At Moto America in Austin there were lots of different taillight configurations and it really didn't seem to be a big deal.

Im thinking this 4 dollar investment might work well if I can figure a way to mount it
