XR100 R wheels and what to do?!

I currently have an XR100 with 16" wheels and Battlax BT045 tires on them. The rear tire is basically used up from this weekend, and I need a new one. I've also been told to go to 17" or 12" rims for better tire choices, and this seems like the moment to explore this, before I purchase more rubber.

I have a 17" excel front rim for the bike, and a rear hub that I could make into a 17 or 12, depending on what I bought.

Anyone race or ride mini motards and have some input here? Or have some wheels to sell????

Thanks in advance for any input!

I have a set of 12s I just purchased and installed but have not yet gotten a chance to ride them. The general thing I have heard is 12s are good for tight kart tracks and 17s are better for the bigger tracks. The one thing I am worried about is ground clearance on the 12s. I don't ride foot out but those that do say you run out of room REALLY quickly on the 12s.

Thanks for the input! Now I just need to hunt until I can find some affordable 12's I guess!

I have a set of Excel 17s laced to XR hubs if interested.
I've never had a problem racing the small TMGP tracks on them.
If you can't race it, it ain't worth having!

I have been real happy with them. On the CMRA tracks, you rarely use brakes. On the TMPG tracks, you do and these seem to hold up very well if you do not convert the front end to a caliper brake. I don't want to commit to the time and dollars it takes to do so.

I may try the Moose ones as well. The EBC versions are not as good as OEM Honda that I have tried. OEM has been consistently the best shoes for me.
